The Galvashield XP range of embedded galvanic anode units
utilize an innovative zinc anode core design surrounded by an
enhanced formulated cement-based mortar to provide corrosion
mitigation to reinforced concrete structures
•It is well established that the CP process achieves an immediate reduction in the corrosion rate by shifting the steel/concrete potential but that, in addition, the cathodic reactions on the steel/concrete interface increase the alkalinity (raise of pH) by Hydroxyl ions (OH-) generation and drive Chloride ions away from the steel due to the negative charge of the ions being repelled by the negative polarity of the reinforcement and attracted by the positive polarity of the anode.
•
•Thus cathodic protection of steel in concrete has always incorporated some degree of re-alkalisation and re-distribution of chlorides.
